Carmarthen Castle Academic Publication

Work is progressing on the production of a monograph. This will contain a history of the castle and later gaol, and analysis of the surviving remains and details of the archaeological work undertaken on the castle over the past few decades. Anticipated publication date is 2008-09.

Post-excavation and reporting 2007-08

A full excavation report is being produced. Dating evidence has been obtained from skeletal material placing the cist graves eroding from the cliff edge at AD650 to 780 and the cist grave from within the burial compound to AD900 to 920 or AD 950 to 1040. The rectilinear ditch surrounding the burial compound has been dated to AD540 to 650, and the circular ditch surrounding the burial compound has been dated to AD660 to 870.
